    Waterfront Museum & Showboat Barge

290 Conover St. Brooklyn, NY 11231
    718-624-4719

http://www.waterfrontmuseum.org One of the city's truly unique museum experiences, the Waterfront Museum is housed aboard the Lehigh Valley No. 79, which is now docked in Brooklyn just off the coast of formerly-industrial-but-getting-hipper Red Hook. The vessel dates back to 1914 and is on the National Registrar of Historic Places, mainly because it is one of the only Hudson River wooden barges left in existence. The museum hosts rotating exhibits and artifacts relating to waterfront history, offers barge and tugboat tours, and the occasional event. Take the Ikea ferry for easy transport from Manhattan, venture a few blocks inland to the Red Hook soccer fields for excellent food trucks, or check out the swath of up-and-coming dining along Van Brunt Street.
