    Brooklyn Industries

    206 5th Ave. Brooklyn, NY 11217
    718-789-2764

http://www.brooklynindustries.com This homegrown favorite is an alternative to the sometimes canned charms of stores like Urban Outfitters; Brooklyn Industries has a nice selection of printed tees, comfortable hoodies, bags, and other so-called streetwear. All that local pride can get tiresome (and 718 implies four boroughs, not just one) but this is a fun place for the would-be skater/cool kid to shop. More >>

  • The Brooklyn Kitchen

    The Brooklyn Kitchen

100 Frost St. New York, NY 11211
    718-389-2982

http://www.thebrooklynkitchen.com The Brooklyn Kitchen is about education. On one hand, they’ve got classes on knife skills, sauces, traditional breakfast dishes, and pies. The Williamsburg space even hosts classes in collaboration with several of Brooklyn’s finest culinary institutions, whether it’s a homemade pizza class with Roberta's or a pickling class with McClure's. On the other hand, the Brooklyn Kitchen offers high quality kitchen wares and locally and ethically sourced meats. (The butchers here know their stuff--Tom Mylan, one of four butchers, helped open Marlow and Sons.) They’ve got pork, lamb, and beef, and offer a ridiculous amount of sausages--even a chili cheese-stuffed hot dog. Aside from the stuff you can buy, the butchers are open to any and all questions. --Shane Barnes More >>

  • Brooks Brothers

346 Madison Ave. New York, NY 10017
    212-682-8800

http://www.brooksbrothers.com Brooks Brothers is something that stylish creatures like to wax nostalgic about (aRemember when men wore hats? And pocket squares!a etc.) but the truth is that classic American dressing is alive and well, as a visit to this shop will confirm. The menas clothing is more attractive than the womenas stuff, a real rarity, and the boyas clothing is nothing short of adorable: teensy cable-knit sweaters, tiny navy blazers with brass buttons. Even if youare not an Eisenhower-era company man, itas likely that Brooks Brothers knit polos, dress shirts, and sweaters will suit you just fine. More >>
