  • TJ Maxx

1509 Forest Ave. Staten Island, NY 10302
    718-876-1995

http://www.tjmaxx.com Walking the line between bargain and schlock, TJ Maxx is not for the faint of heart. Persistence is often rewarded here, and sometimes in-depth searching of the racks will yield some remarkable treasures: not-too-irregular designer goods, surprisingly wearable no-name goods, a smattering of acceptable linens or other housewares. Sometimes, though, the bad lighting and incredible disarray are just too dispiriting, even for the most dedicated treasure hunter. More >>

  • TKNY

    21 Ave. B New York, NY 10009
    212-677-0500

With a large-screen window display transmitting various media, TKNY appears to be a gallery. Inside, various stalls resemble science projects, though they display objects for sale. By careful examination, I found a necklace that lights up, inflatable speakers, and Archimedes, a little green man in a bottle who I'm still trying to figure out. A store that makes me use my brain more than I am accustomed to when shopping is not entirely a bad thing. More >>

  • Tod's

650 Madison Ave. New York, NY 10022
    212-644-5945

http://www.tods.com Tod's sells everyday shoes for the WASP about town (those ubiquitous driving shoes), some sexier evening shoes for women, and a selection of stylish bags big enough for the woman who has everything and carries it all around with her. The kids' shoes are cute, though it's always mildly disturbing when young children are dressed like mini-adults. More >>

  • Todd Oldham by La-Z-Boy

73 Wooster St. New York, NY 10012
    212-226-4908

http://www.la-z-boy.com Former runway designer and MTV "House of Style" kitsch guru Todd Oldham now focuses on revamping La-Z-Boy's frumpy image, with his own line of hip sofas, chairs, tables, rugs, and accessories for the company. This is the first and only store solely devoted to Todd Oldham's designs, which price in a little higher than regular La-Z-Boy fare: Sofas start at $800. More >>

http://www.togabikes.com Overachieving triathletes can buy their bikes, as well as the official cat-suit-like uniform, at Toga. The store also sells high-end rides from brands like Cannondale, Specialized, and Giant. Most of their business is in road bikes and hybrids, though they also sell mountain bikes for those braving the world outside NYC. More >>

  • Tops on the Waterfront

    85 N. 6th St. Brooklyn, NY 11211
    718-782-6660

In a neighborhood littered with C-Towns, specializing in rotten produce and questionable meat, the grocery Tops on the Waterfront was a welcome addition. Get all your grocery needs taken care of in one stop, if you donat have time to hit the eight bodegas necessary to buy the ingredients for one meal. Although a bit pricey, Tops has an outstanding selection of organic frozen dinners, a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, cheeses, steaks, and sausages. It also carries locally made Polish bread and pierogies. But bring a sweater. You might just be walking through the fresh foods section, but it feels like a meat cooler. More >>

  • Tory Burch

    Tory Burch

257 Elizabeth St. New York, NY 10012
    212-334-3000

http://www.toryburch.com Beloved socialite and former Vera Wang employee, Burch recently set up her green-and-gold shop on Elizabeth Street, with one in L.A. well on it way. The upscale WASP boutique, home to her "Babe Paley-inspired" twill skirts, cashmere cardigans, cotton voile caftans, and logo bags is a rather incongruous addition to Elizabeth Street, even on this increasingly highfalutin block. • Tourneau

    212-758-7300

http://www.tourneau.com If you're signed to Bad Boy Entertainment, a day trader, or some minor European prince, Tourneau is the only place to go if you need a watch. They prefer them clunky and diamond encrusted, apparently, though if you're one of those people (and there really are such types) who swoon over Swiss-engineered timepieces and so on, you'll find plenty to love here, iced or not.
