Roulette's 39-year-old performance space, relocated to Brooklyn in 2010, is a big gig for guitarist Che Chen and percussionist Rick Brown's avant-rock duo-plus 75 Dollar Bill, whose appearances are go-to events for their tiny but discerning fan base. Brown is an inventive yet compellingly solid beatmaster on a kit now more expansive than the wooden box he sometimes sits on, Chen a no-holds-barred noise virtuoso whose Bo Diddley variations at a late-January Hoboken gig mesmerized as they excited. That night they were joined here and there by a transported Sue Garner on drums, Steve Maing on guitar and sax, Barry Weisblat on percussion, and Cheryl Kingan on extra sax for the finale. Brown reports that all these and more will show up at Roulette. Not necessarily to perform the identical tasks, I'd venture. But I believe the Bo tribute was "Cummins Falls" if you want to request it.
