Brooklyn Comedy Marathon: Fierce, Funny, and Feminist

Brooklyn Comedy Marathon: Fierce, Funny, and Feminist

Beatrice LaBarge Erica Watson

Hosted by the blogger and comic Erica Watson, this evening of laughs aims to showcase the voices of female-identified and gender-nonconforming comedians. The lineup includes over fifteen stand-up performers, as well as improv sets (courtesy the groups Affirmative Action and Girls With Brown Hair), a panel discussion between an assortment of comedy writers, and a live presentation of Marina Franklin's podcast, Friends Like Us. The marathon is part of the Brooklyn Museum's ongoing initiative "A Year of Yes: Reimagining Feminism," which is striving to broaden the canon and shine light on the work of those often neglected by major art institutions. "Fierce, Funny, and Feminist" will be a night not only to celebrate the art of being funny, but to take note of the efforts of these trailblazing comedians to push back against a heteronormative, male-dominated field.
