Sometimes all you need to mount a sumptuous, far-reaching film series is a single word. This fall, Nitehawk presents "Crime," a two-month celebration of double-crosses and dirty deeds done by some of the most nefarious characters — cops and robbers alike — to ever grimace on a movie screen. The series runs the gamut, from foreign and domestic classics like John Woo's The Killer (1989) and John Boorman's Point Blank (1967) — two films that make it clear there's no such thing as "one last job" for the hardened, professional gunman — to midnight-movie crowd-pleasers like Paul Verhoeven's RoboCop (1987) and Luc Besson's The Fifth Element (1997), both of which seem to be approaching near-documentary status in the year 2016. Then there's what is perhaps the most chilling crime film ever made, based on one of the best crime books ever written: Richard Brooks's In Cold Blood (1967), presented here with Nitehawk's full "Booze & Books"–branded treatment. There will be T-shirts pegged to the book's fiftieth anniversary, as well as a themed cocktail pairing — a necessary antidote to a movie as thoroughly sobering as this one.

"Crime" runs through October 30 at Nitehawk. Click here for the screening schedule.
