This puppetry-centric work from Kevin Augustine and Lone Wolf Tribe centers on a version of the Supreme Being afflicted with dementia and outfitted in an old-man mask that makes him look like a villain straight out of one of the Purge movies. Wrestling with his internal demons while attempting to keep up with the incessant barrage of prayer requests, this lone figure pivots between all sorts of registers (physical hijinks, ribald remarks, weighty philosophical inquiries) — much like the show itself, whose dazzling puppetry can't quite conceal some of the darker pulses roiling beneath its busy surface. Not for nothing has Voice critic Helen Shaw called The God Projekt "one of the most startlingly intense shows I've seen."
