Are you human? Do you believe in magic(k)? If you answered yes to either of these questions, you should find something to tickle your aura at the Occult Humanities Conference (co-hosted by the Phantasmaphile blog and NYU's Steinhardt Department of Art and Art Professions), where maverick researchers and scholars will spill the magic beans regarding their esoteric obsessions. On Saturday, tarot authority Rachel Pollack lays her cards on the table and Celia Rabinovitch discusses Swiss-American artist Kurt Seligmann's insights into magic and surrealism. On Sunday, Techgnosis author Erik Davis revisits the magic of the mushroom in "Swallowing the Stone With the Brothers McKenna: Psychedelics, Alchemy, and Media at La Chorrera," which will be followed by sessions devoted to Maya Deren, Carl Jung, and that musical hoodoo known as the blues.
