Few books live up to the designation "necessary reading," but Rebecca Solnit's latest, The Mother of All Questions, is one of them. Following her national bestseller Men Explain Things to Me (and sixteen other books on history and activism), Solnit presents this essay collection, which combines her trademark wit with biting commentary on modern-day sexism. Her arguments are well-supported with original research and couched in history, and together, they comprise one of the most persuasive feminist releases this year. Solnit's book launch, which is co-presented by BAM, Greenlight Bookstore, and the Onassis Cultural Center New York, will feature a conversation between the author and the PEN/Hemingway Award–winning Teju Cole (Known and Strange Things). Their mutual background in cultural criticism promises a fascinating discussion, which will be followed by a signing.
