"The Only Way Is Up" Awol Erizku

11:00 a.m. every Tue., Wed., Thu., Fri., Sat. until August 15

An exhibition, named after a Quincy Jones album, of new photographs, sculptures and installations by cultural collagist Awol Erizku. Although Erizku’s work abounds with signifiers and indicators of African American culture, it speaks more broadly to a universal quest for self-discovery. Paramount among his interests is the re-contextualization and re-purposing of ready-made objects, especially those vested with powerful connotations, as well as of world-famous works of art, such as Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring and Manet's Olympia (for which he photographed sex workers in Ethiopia in that famous pose).
