5 Pointz: The Institute of Higher Burning is described as the world's premiere "graffiti Mecca." That about covers it. This decaying 5-block industrial complex now referred to as an outdoor exhibit space, is adorned top to bottom with high-quality aerosol art. Despite its cult status, in recent years it has been constantly threatened to be demolished in way of luxury high rises. Attention by prominent hip-hop and R&B stars has helped it to hold out, as well as the tour buses of art admirers, deejays, and musicians who frequent the space daily. Located in an otherwise barren stretch of Long Island City, it can be hard to find, but that just adds to the charm.
