Of the long line of northern Indian restaurants marching up Broadway on the Upper West Side, Aangan is one of the more ambitious. Though it seeks to draw recipes from several regions of Indian (Goa and Mumbai, to name two), the bedrock of the menu lies in Punjabi cooking, with meats and rich sauces. That means lots of praiseworthy tandoori selections and a vast array of breads, too, including a few dubious choices like kulcha stuffed with cheddar cheese, but also such great ones as mint paratha and peshwari naan. The thali lunch special available seven days a week is a massive feed for around $10, and perfect for weekend brunch.
