Arthurs is certainly one of the better restaurants in the Meatpacking District, though its culinary aspirations extend further than it can actually reach. The best apps on the New American menu (which incorporates elements of steakhouse and sea shack) are mainly French, including a lush lobster bisque, and a chicken liver terrine nicely topped with schmaltz and served on a plank of wood with caramelized onions and toast. The entrees seem pricier, but we thoroughly enjoyed a grilled branzino, and, on another occasion, a porterhouse for two, nicely charred. The place was once the notorious disco Lotus, and the grandiose d├ęcor constitutes a nice retrofitting. Try to score one of the balcony tables.
