NYC-based, pop/rock artist, Joey Contreras just released his LP, Young Kind Of Love. The album showcases sounds of both pop and contemporary musical theatre. Young Kind Of Love features notable artists such as Loren Allred (The Voice), LOLO (DCD2 Records recording artist) and numerous Broadway talents.
Contreras was born in Northern California and moved to NYC in 2010, where he attended NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts’ Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program. Shortly thereafter, he received an ASCAP Foundation Scholarship award in recognition of his talent as a musical theatre songwriter. In 2010, he released, Love Me, Love Me Not: The Music of Joey Contreras, featuring Tony-nominee Jeremy Jordan, X-Factor finalist Rachel Potter and more.
Contreras was hailed one of Playbill’s “Contemporary Musical Theatre Songwriters You Should Know,” and his performance video for his song “Great, Cool” was voted one of the “Top 5 Video Moments” for the site in 2013. Contreras collaborated with Kate Thomas to write the musical, All The Kids Are Doing It, which received development in multiple places including the Provincetown Playhouse. In 2013, he was named “Artist In Residence” with the non-profit organization, Broadway Dreams Foundation. Performances for Contreras include the ACT Young Conservatory benefit concert, where he performed alongside Darren Criss and Rozzi Crane.
