Larger-than-life restaurateur Jeffrey Chodorow (China Grill, Asia de Cuba) is known for taking restaurant concepts and turning them up to 11. Take his Chelsea tapas spot; when most people think of tapas, they think of small, casual Spanish bistros. Chodorow took a different route, hiring Blade Runner designer Syd Mead to create a bright red, futuristic hotel restaurant that wouldn't look out of place in a sci-fi movie. Eat in the modestly sized dining room or the huge lounge featuring a retractable roof and the country's largest flat-screen TV. The décor might be out there, but the food is rooted in traditional Basque cooking. Small plates include Jamon Iberico and spicy fried green olives, while entrees range from crispy suckling pig with potato and mushroom risotto and monkfish in a parsley and white wine sauce. Complement your meal with one of the specialty cocktails made with seasonal ingredients or something from the long list of Spanish wines.
