For fans of Downton Abbey—seriously, they recently hosted a Downton Abbey-themed lecture—this place should delight. The Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum was built between 1836 and 1842, nestled in what is now the Bronx's sprawling Pelham Bay Park, as a country estate in the Greek Revival (re: ridiculously decadent) style. But it's been a museum since 1946, hosting visitors and students in the preserved opulence of its rooms and gardens. Four guided tours are conducted per day, as well as special programs and classes. At just $5 for adults, it's a bargain escape from the city.
