It might not be a big hit with food critics, but Dallas BBQ certainly has plenty of fans. The East Village location, one of eight spread across New York City, is almost always bustling with families, students and recent graduates looking for a filling, inexpensive meal. Dishes such as pulled pork, baby back ribs, brisket, burgers, rotisserie chicken and sirloin steak come out of the kitchen at twice the size and half the price of similar dishes at other restaurants. Also popular is the onion loaf, a massive tower made up of crispy fried onions. The booze is similarly cheap and oversized: pitchers of Bud for $13.50, "Texas Size" versions of frozen drinks like margaritas and pina coladas for $8 (the mini-umbrellas are complimentary). A fenced-in sidewalk patio provides plenty of entertainment with its great view of the zoo that is St. Mark"s Place at night. Inside, paper placemats and the neon glow from the window are signs that the vibe is completely casual.—Keith Wagstaff
