Brooklyn Masonic Temple

Best Of
This compact concert hall is pretty bare-bones. Right around the corner from the opulent BAM conglomerate, the Brooklyn Masonic Temple looks just as grand—from the outside. The hall itself, rather sparse in decor, is a viable option for shows nonetheless, hosting a range of indie bands in the two-story venue. The ground floor is usually standing room while the balconies feature original if less-than-comfy seating. But the location in ever-up-and-coming Fort Greene makes all the difference. Exceedingly hip restaurants and bars are close by and plenty, even as the neighborhood retains a quiet, residential feel. Take the C from Manhattan, or the more accessible G from Brooklyn or Queens.
