Brooklyn Wok Shop provides an invented cuisine sometimes known as "Chinese food for white people." That is, Cantonese standards once carried out from neighborhood greasy spoons are now refined and served in a bistro setting with an appealing (and partly locavoric) wine and beer list. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but the prices are double or triple what you once paid, and the dishes sometimes more bland than you'd like. Best here are the steamed breads called baos, stuffed with your choice of chicken or pork, and a pair of over-rice dishes featuring the same meats, which can be improved with the addition of a fried egg. Steer clear of General Tso's chicken, which is gloppier and more repulsively sweet than usual.
