Even St. Marks Place--land of tattoo parlors, gawking tourists, and $1 pizza slices--needs an Irish pub. Bull McCabe's fills that role ably: wood-paneled walls, a pool table, Guinness on tap, etc. However, it builds on the idea with some old-fashioned East Village grit: the rock 'n' roll-fueled jukebox, empty beer bottles scattered throughout, unabashed and conversational patrons. The two scenes go together like a beer and a shot, which is to say, far better than you anticipated.
