This new branch of Brooklyn's great Uighur restaurant, Café Kashkar offers a premises weirdly furnished with pastel plastics, and an expanded menu of Turkic Central Asian fare. New to me was otush salad–a julienne of beef with shredded veggies and "soy sprouts" (which tasted like garlic chives) in a sprightly vinegar flavored with herbs and pink peppercorns. Another surprise was khanum, a trio of flattened crepes filled with shredded spuds and topped with tomato sauce and fresh dill. The menu also excels at the usual lamb kebabs, soups, and dumplings. The hostess announced: aIam from Tashkenta–not exactly Xinjiang, but so what?
