Things you should know about mezcal: a) it is made from the maguey plant, a cousin of the blue agave plant used to make tequila b) it¹s roasted in small patches in pits in the earth, resulting in an intense, smoky flavor c) it will get you very drunk. The many hard-to-find mezcals served here can be ordered both straight-up or in specialty cocktails. Get your buzz on because the vibe here is definitely dark and flirty. The first floor of this three-story bar hosts a dance floor for live music and dancing. Most of the action takes place on the second floor where colorful string lights hanging from the ceiling cast a seductive glow on the red walls and cozy banquettes. The kitchen churns out small bites that you won't find at your standard burrito joint: melted cheese with grasshoppers and tomato, braised lamb in a chipotle sauce, tacos filled with pork cooked in a dry ancho chile and garlic sauce, and much more.—Keith Wagstaff
