Mounted by Ouest owner Tom Valenti, 'Cesca is a maze of plush banquettes and stony culs-de-sac that feels like a hotel lobby. Other publications have suggested the food is creative southern Italian-a total lie. The splendid northern favorite vitello tonnato (thin sliced veal with tuna sauce) goes easy on the fish but is thrilling nonetheless, while central Italian bucatini is as good as any we've ever had, with crisp cubes of pancetta and an engaging spiciness. The secondi on a first visit were a mixed bag, with the chicken ragu seeming like a great idea, and the big chewy hunks of liver wrapped in burnt pancetta a bad one.
