This gallery and performance space was founded in 1995 by Anita Durst as a theater. Today Chashama functions as a site for numerous artistic performances and endeavors, but is most notable as an organization that connects artists with unoccupied real estate to form 'spaces to create.' Located on 42nd Street, this branch of the organization is easy to access from just about any subway line. It's also close to all the sites around Times Square. If you're weary of high ticket prices and Disney-sponsored plays, this venue provides a much needed option for alternative entertainment in the theater district.
