This unassuming little Israeli spot is tucked around a corner across from a police station and a stone’s throw from the Barclays Center in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn. It specializes in Sephardic salads and bread dips, and you can’t go wrong with the vegetarian combo, a giant platter of great stuff shareable by two. It includes baba ghanoush, hummus, fiery carrot salad, minted beets, puffy pita (you can ask for more), chopped salad, pickles, etc. If you’re looking for hot food, try shakshuka, a Moroccan-Jewish standard of eggs poached in a chile-laced tomato sauce. Chick P is vegetarian, and vegans will find that nearly everything falls within their purview. There’s only a bit of counter seating, so if the weather is fine, go outside and perch on Barclays’ benches, just west of the center, both alongside and behind the subway entrance.
