This Peruvian chicken joint in Jackson Heights, situated underneath the infernal clatter of the 7 train, is one of a half-dozen Peruvian chicken rotisseries along this half-mile or so of Roosevelt Avenue. Why pick this one? Because it's the best. Though not as thickly coated with spices as at some other places, the skin at Chicken Festival is quasi-crisp, and the flesh moist with plenty of dark meat. (Where do they source their chickens, we wonder?) The slender menu includes the usual salchipapas (french fries with hot dog segments), lomo saltado (steak sauteed with french fries and onions, and much better than it sounds), rotisserie pork ribs, Chinese fried rice, and jalea – which might just be the menu's greatest glory, a huge stack of perfectly breaded seafood resting on railroad ties of fried yuca. The room is brightly lit, and stenciled with Inca motifs. You won't go away from Chicken Festival hungry, and the prices are right. --Robert Sietsema
