This casual café on the Lower East Side provides a place for people to web-surf during the day and enjoy a candle-lit dessert at night. The set-up is simple enough, a few wooden tables and colorful paintings hung on chocolate brown walls. Fair-trade coffee and breakfast pastries are the popular items in the morning when the café opens at 7am. During the day, laptop-toting freelancers come to take advantage of the free Wi-Fi. Chocolate is in abundance, from chocolate bars and bon bons to truffles and pralines. At night, chocoholics come in for baked desserts like chocolate-covered cheesecake and raspberry truffle cake to share over a bottle of wine. The international wine list features 40 different wines available by the bottle and glass, with optional wine pairings available after 7:30pm when table service begins. A popular item during all times of the day is the hot chocolate, served with a healthy dose of marshmallows.—Keith Wagstaff
