Connie O's

158 Norman Ave.
Brooklyn, NY 11222
It's hard to find $1 beer in this city, or anywhere, but Connie O's has it on tap during happy hour. The price is but doubled during all other hours, and Cheetos are free. But thrift isn't even the main reason this welcoming Greenpoint watering hole has such a dedicated following. Despite rampant GIRLS-era gentrification, the crowd here remains local, varied, divey, and surprisingly social. Bartenders are exceptionally engaging and there's often lovingly-arranged holiday or seasonal decorations. Pool leagues play on Sunday and the three modest arcade games are only partially obscured by boxes of beer. Go to this bare-bones, bright green-painted hole-in-the-wall when in need of comfort, they might actually remember your name.
