This elegant bi-level restaurant seems intent on outclassing its more plebian neighbors in Curry Hill. If fact, it seems more like it belongs on East 58th Street, the city's upscale Indian restaurant row. The $10.95 weekday luncheon special is a thing of beauty -like the buffet of a small ocean liner, though it has foregone darker meats like lamb, goat, and beef in order to achieve this economy. The chicken dishes are weak compared to the vegetarian ones, counting among them an excellent green-beans poriyal, a dessert pudding called phirni, fresh hot naans (not to be confused with fresh hot nuns), and a host of zingy condiments.
