Successor to Park Slope's Corn Bread Café, this modern diner was founded in Flatbush by North Carolinians, and the best items on the menu often highlight that heritage. There's an amazing chicken and dumplings - tender pieces of skin-on chicken in a saline broth with small fluffy dumplings, shot with black peppercorns--and a barbecue section that ably represents the oven-and-sweet-sauce style of the Carolinas: no smoke, but good nonetheless. The sides are paragons of their type, including a very cheesy mac and cheese, deeply flavored collards, and fine corn bread, as befits the moniker of the place. The menu, which seems way too big for such a small place, also features Cajun, Italian, hot dogs and burgers, and seafood.
