This art house was established four decades ago in order to commission and present socially-minded art. And it's upheld the tradition in a big way. Creative Time is responsible for many highly visible public commissions, such as the two beacons of light that shine in place of the twin towers on the anniversary of 9/11, and a series of HIV awareness subway ads. The gallery space and headquarters is located in the heart of Greenwich Village/NYU Land. It's a functioning tribute to the character of the neighborhood pre-gentrification. Bars, restaurants, and Washington Square Park are steps away.
