Frank Crispo's sprawling, 150-seat restaurant has been serving Northern Italian classics to Chelsea since 2002. Despite its size, the place still manages to feel cozy thanks to its rustic design scheme, all exposed wood beams, worn brick, copper pans, Edison bulbs and a roaring fireplace. The huge backyard, which is covered in winter, is similarly impressive with its stone tiles and rocky water fountain. The menu is fairly traditional, including pastas like the guanciale-strewn bucatini alla amatriciana and the orecchiette with broccoli rabe and sausage, plus daily fish specials and meaty dishes like roast pork shank with quince and spicy chilies and a seared scallop and duck confit ³surf and turf² special. Step up to the impressively large marble-topped bar with its iron-wrought wine rack and order one of the many wines ($30-$377) sourced from both Italy and California's Napa Valley. Also available are German and American craft beers on tap, plus several champagnes, aperitifs and digestifs.—Keith Wagstaff
