Late-night cabbies pop into this tiny Punjabi Sikh spot for the chai, the pakoras, and the better-than-usual steam table offerings, including Punjabi staples like rogan josh and saag. One of the best items on the menu is an invention called the Desi Deli spicy chicken sandwich. A fried cutlet of chicken breast is stuffed into a shockingly good torpedo roll, along with lettuce, tomato, mayo, homemade lime pickle and green chile chutney. Tell them you like it spicy. Don"t miss the bread pakora, a diabolically delicious, carby and calorific snack from Northern India. First a sandwich of spiced potato mash and onions on fluffy white bread is assembled. Then the whole thing is dipped into chickpea-flour batter and deep-fried. Dipped in spicy chutney, it"s one for the record books.
