Many years ago, when Dok Suni's landed in the East Village, it was a breath of fresh air in a neighborhood given to Japanese, Italian, and Eastern European restaurants. Back then Zagat rightly heralded it as "Korean for wimps." But a much later visit found the food as zesty as anything on 32nd Street and the prices reasonable by comparison, though the portions sometimes seem comically small. The brick-red broth of the tofu stew called chiagae foretold its awesome spiciness, and the crunchy rice dish bibimbop, served in a stone crock, was some of the best around.
