In our recent extreme pupusa run, El Comal handily won the competition, preparing to order the best pupusas in Queens. But don't neglect of check out the steam table as you enter (there's also a free-form dining room in a second storefront on the right). In addition to the luscious cheese-and-pork pupusas, garnished with the tart slaw called cortido, you may end up carrying away a bowl of wonderful mondongo (tripe) soup, a few pieces of the excellent fried chicken, or one of the omnibus platters that might include the meat salad called salpicon, a whole fried porgy of unimpeachable freshness, or one of the paella-like rice and seafood preparations. Anything featuring fried pork is enthusiastically recommended.
