Walking into this Chelsea Spanish spot, tucked neatly away in the historic Chelsea hotel, feels like walking through a time warp to the 1930s when the restaurant first opened. The narrow bar area upfront is cluttered with kitschy design elements such as the faux-tile roof overhanging the wooden bar and the stained-glass lamps hanging overhead. The dining room is less cluttered but no less antiquated; the black and white tile floors, white tablecloths, sparkly chandeliers and oil paintings would look quite glamorous in, say, a Humphrey Bogart movie. As one would expect, the menu is fairly traditional, with a huge selection of seafood dishes ranging from shrimp cooked in garlic sauce to a lobster-filled paella. There are meaty options as well, like grilled veal chops and a filet mignon for two. Most tables opt for a jug or two of the house red sangria.—Keith Wagstaff
