This branch of Daniel Boulud’s culinary empire is the least pretentious, a charcuterie and sandwich shop that, if you were led into it blindfolded, might make you think you were in Paris. Discrete counters at Epicerie Boulud offer a range of specialties, including composed salads, French sandwiches on baguettes, artisanal breads baked on the premises, Viennese pastries, and charcuterie made by the empire’s master, Gilles Verot. Among the last are a black-truffle-and-pistachio pate en brioche, a foie gras terrine, house-made Parisian ham, and a cognac-laced chicken liver mousse. But maybe you’d rather have one of Boulud’s 10-inch bulbous hot dogs, which put Nathan’s to shame. Biggest drawback: If you don’t choose to carry out, you must dine standing up.
