It's unassuming from the outside, just a window with a neon "Restaurant" sign and some menus plastered to it. Inside, however, it's a party, bartenders dishing out frozen margaritas and cold Mexican beers at a breakneck pace behind the rickety wooden bar. The design scheme is Old Mexico; a colorful mural depicting a bullfight takes up one wall while decorative rifles take up another. Families and in-the-know 20-somethings dine on tables topped by Mexican blankets. The menu is classic Mexican: enchiladas suizas, chicken mole, pollo asado, bistec served with onions, shrimp served Veracruz-style. Portions are pretty big, although if you are really hungry you can opt for one of the giant combination platters, which combine three dishes on one plate. The booze is relatively cheap, making this a great stop before a night out. Lunch service is considerably calmer than dinner, with the restaurant serving inexpensive burritos, tacos and quesadillas until 3pm.—Keith Wagstaff
