The menu at this hip pan-Asian bistro is huge, drawing heavily from Thai, Japanese, and Chinese cuisines. Inventive sushi is a specialty; the Friend House roll covers tuna, salmon and eel in soy paper and wasabi curry sauce while the Fire Island roll combines spicy king crab and tuna with a yuzu-kim chi sauce. If you're not feeling like raw fish, you can order classic Cantonese dishes like black pepper prawns and kung pao chicken or go the Thai route with chicken covered in Thai peanut sauce or pad Thai packed with jumbo shrimp. The décor is spare and modern, all sharp, clean lines and sleek glowing light fixtures. The backyard, with its wood beams covered in hanging vines, is a great place to spend a warm night out. Lunch is particularly crowded as office workers flock here for the lunch special, which includes a classic Chinese dish with soup or a spring roll for only $6.50.—Keith Wagstaff
