Full House is part of a new generation of Shanghai restaurants in the city’s Chinatowns, offering not only the full range of Shanghai cuisine, but also a choice collection of Sichuan, Hong Kong, Thai, Northern Chinese, and even American dishes (well, restricted to french fries and Buffalo wings). The Shanghai stuff includes a wonderful rendition of crab-and-pork-stuffed soup dumplings, braised pork shoulder, lion head meatballs, mock duck, and dozens of others, plus a dozen permutations of Shanghai-style lo mein, thicker than the usual noodle. Predictably, the Sichuan dishes are spicy, but somewhat lacking in the tongue-numbing peppercorns that characterize the cuisine. Don’t miss the nifty luncheon special, which includes main dish, plenty of rice, and a choice of soups at a laughably low price. Full House boasts two levels: the blue-lit downstairs seems almost like a disco, while the upstairs, favored by families, is more laid-back, with traditional Chinatown restaurant décor. Though wine is offered, Thai beer is the beverage to order. --Robert Sietsema
