This quaint studio and storefront gallery is right at home in the West Village, surrounded by high-end boutiques and restaurants. But Greenwich House Pottery predates all that—this historic brick house has been the site of clay and ceramic work since 1909. The non-profit studio offers a variety of 6-week long classes in sculpting, firing, and other particulars of the trade. But if you're not ready to commit to the art, the adjacent Jane Harstook Gallery hosts rotating exhibitions by local artists, open to the public Wednesday through Saturday. The ACE line is close by at West 4th Street, as is Washington Square Park and NYU.
