The 140-year-old Istanbul baklava bakery has had a branch on Coney Island Avenue in Brooklyn for five years, and now the East Side has its own, with an expanded menu. Bedrock is an amazing collection of 14 types of baklava (you thought there was only one?), most composed of various combination's of honey, nuts, and filo dough. Co-specialty are boregis - orotund pastries stuffed with cheese, spinach, or meat, and perfect for meals on the go. In addition to the egg breakfasts also offered by the Brooklyn branch, the Manhattan outpost slings luncheon dishes, including composed salads, grilled sandwiches, stuffed potatoes, and lamb burgers. The small dining room is spare, pleasant, and feels like Turkey.
