One of the greatest boons to cheap neighborhood dining has been the appearance of banh mi shops, selling baguette sandwiches that happily incorporate French and Vietnamese elements. Always warmed before deployment, the bread mixes rice and wheat flour for a solid crust and featherweight interior. Boerum Hill has its own shop, which also sells bubble tea and a few composed salads in addition to seven types of banh mi. Dark horse favorite on a first visit was sardine, wherein the funky canned fish was mitigated with pickled veggies, fresh jalapeños, and mayonnaise.
