At the corner of Pearl and Beaver, this link in a Japanese chain is somehow more impressive because of its way-downtown location. Deposited in a former bank, the interior is relaxed and elegant, lit by flickering candles that waver as the black-clad servers lope by. Starting at the upper end of the sushi list, we were wowed by the belly tuna sashimi and the "live scallop"--a whole sliced organism deposited on a lemon-lined shell way too big for it. Normal sushi and sashimi tend to be of the Korean-leaning large size, and the full Japanese menu is filled with inventions that might or might not work; we wouldn't order the doughy edamame dumplings again.
