Living-room comfort and community intersect at High Dive in playful, divey kitschiness. Board games, up-to-date magazines and biscuit-tufted sofas coexist with arcade games, circus posters, and art deco wallpaper. Handwritten playlists on the jukebox, in which Nirvana and “Red, Red Wine” are only a few songs apart, read like inside jokes. A Miller High Life sign shines through the old-fashioned popcorn machine with the creepy doll atop it; the popcorn is buttery, salty, and free. A serene back courtyard provides refuge for those who need a break from the theatrical inside. Patrons can buy drinks for an absent friend who can redeem it when they're at the bar. These transactions are kept track of on a chalkboard. When asked what would happen if they ran out of room, the bartender replied with a smile: “We don’t.”
