With two other locations in Italy, this tiny West Village bakery certainly has authenticity going for it. Expect a nice mix of sweet and savory traditional Tuscan baked goods. Everything is made by hand every day, from sheets of focaccia to loaves of crusty, saltless Tuscan bread. Even more enticing might be the sweets. In the morning, order a cantucci (biscotti filled with bits of chocolate, almond and fig) along with a hot espresso. The pancioc, sweet small rolls filled with drops of chocolate, are great for a mid-afternoon snack. Tourists and office workers often stop during lunch for a hot slice of thick Sicilian pizza or sandwiches filled with things like prosciutto, ham and mortadella. The look is clean and contemporary, with white pressed-tin ceilings, solid woodblock tables, farmhouse knick-knacks and a long glass counter where women in white hats cut up bread and make sandwiches on wooden cutting boards.— Keith Wagstaff
