Yes, the décor, with its pastel walls and patterned carpet, isn't exactly cutting edge, but that's not why people come here. The main attraction is the traditional Italian fare, which has been bringing in locals since the restaurant opened in 1989. The main courses ensure you won't leave still hungry, like the chicken breast with prosciutto, eggplant and fontina cheese, and the breaded veal chop with tomato sauce and mozzarella. Pastas, like the spaghetti carbonara and tortellini alla panna, aren't anything you haven't seen before, while the seafood section of the menu includes dishes like zuppa di pesce (a Roman-style fish soup) and the garlicky, slightly spicy scampi fra diavolo. Upscale, Italian classics don¹t come cheap; expect a fairly hefty bill at the end of dinner service, although the older, West Village crowd can easily afford it, plus attentive service helps ease the pain.—Keith Wagstaff
