Imperial Court of New York

P.O. Box 613
New York, NY 10116
Although their style is more Maid Marian and the Sheriff of Nottingham than Robin Hood, these men in tights are true do-gooders. In the past few years theyave donated large sums to Bronx AIDS services, Body Positive, the Gender Identity Project, and PFLAG. Founded by activist Jose Sarria in San Francisco 35 years ago, Imperial Court now has more than 70 chapters. New Yorkas is one of the most active, hosting coronations in the Waldorf Astoriaas Grand Ballroom in full regal attire. Despite the facade of feathers and pomp, members are generally down to earth and are known for community activism and taking care of their own.
