Named after the home island of Ulysses, this restaurant shocked Villagers some years ago when it migrated from Barrow Street to the Upper East Side. The restaurant still managed to retain its Ionian luster, from the pungency of its bread spreads (a choice of three, served with warm pitas, makes a great shared appetizer) to the modest selection of whole fish, charcoal-grilled to your order and deboned tableside by stiff but attentive waiters, to the savory lamb stews. The grotto-like interior is quieter than most, making this a great place for an intimate conversation.
