When this Victorian-era chophouse was newly built in 1885, making it the same vintage as Peter Luger, it was located in the city's Theater District. Now Keens Steakhouse is surrounded by Korean restaurants. Tourists opt for the prime rib, a cut rarely found in the city, while regulars go for the legendary mutton chop, a hug mass of meat milder tasting than you might imagine, and memorably good. The Caesar salad and oyster service are also both commendable. Keens is much better than it needs to be to regularly fill this historic space up. Weak point: the potatoes.
